Exercise That Boosts Your Happiness Level

Physical activity is important for our health (according to the most recent study of British scientists).

But what if you aren’t really in the mood for hitting the gym today or too tired after work?

Here’s the solution!

If you don’t want to go to the gym, the solution is to get off the couch no matter what and move your ass to… music.

That is, go dancing!

Even if you had an exhausting day, It’s gonna make you feel refreshed (according to… my experience).

It probably isn’t as ‘serious’ as weight lifting or strength training, but it’s, certainly, better than no exercise at all.

And there’s another big benefit I have discovered while going to dancing classes: It makes you feel happy.

I assume it’s because when people are happy they feel like dancing and it seems to also work the other way round – you start dancing which makes your body think you feel excited and it starts releasing hormones responsible for the happiness state.

Probably except for the situation when your dance is caused by your having eaten too much watermelon.

You might wonder,

‘But dancing requires skill, doesn’t it?

I have never danced, only in the shower’.

Well, first of all, you have already got quite a rare skill – not that many people dance in the shower.

Secondly, you don’t have to be a skilful dancer. In fact, you can dance like a fool.. beginner. You can be a full beginner and still enjoy dancing.

And if you carry on doing it, with time you get better and enjoy it even more.

In many cases, you can just repeat the movements as close as possible and enjoy yourself – no one will school you. I find this method to be more effective: you learn in a relaxed way, without pressure which allows you to enjoy the process. And I did use to get irritated a bit when I couldn’t repeat most of the movements, but what I have realized along the way is that it’s fine. When a set of movements is completely new to you, you naturally mess up most of it the first time. However, after several or a dozen classes with the same set, your body learns it by heart. Because your brain refuses to, it thinks it’s too smart for this kindergarten.

I especially enjoy dancing to Spanish-language music.
