Sometimes we (or maybe someone else) ask ourselves, “Am I happy?”. But what would be the right answer to this question? And when you think about it you might realise that It actually makes us hesitate to come up with a direct answer to this question. And used to come up with different answers, but nowadays the best answer for me would, “Well, happiness, I don’t think about it, really.”Why? Because once you start thinking about it you fall into this trap. The mere thinking about happiness makes you feel unhappy. Because happiness is a pure feeling, you can only feel it. Thinking about happiness is not going to make you happy, but will rather do the opposite. You can’t think of it, you can only feel it. The mere word “happiness” is not what happiness is. Because words are just sounds and signs, basically, which we use to ascribe some meaning to them. But, you see, when we use words to explain things, it launches thought process. But again we cannot be happy by thinking about it, because happiness isn’t a thought process, it’s a feeling. It’s just such a sneaky trap which we all tend to fall into over and over again.
Here’s an example. Let’s imagine you’re out in nature, on top of some mountain. And there some other magnificent mountains far away with peaks covered with snow, there are stunning meadows below. You’re observing all of that beauty, everything is so breath-taking, you’re completely absorbed in everything around you, you’re. basically, feel happy. but then suddenly you start asking yourself this question, “Am I happy in my life” or you start comparing the feeling you have now with the feeling you had when you were here or somewhere else last summer. And then all of a sudden that’s feeling of happiness is gone. You’re not really noticing those lovely sceneries anymore as if they didn’t really exist. Now you’re wrapped up this thought process and feeling discontent. What the hell is going on? Just a few seconds ago you felt so much happy in this delightful place you had almost forgotten yourself.
So if you want to feel happy, stop thinking about happiness. Stop thinking about how to become happier. Because there’s no happiness which would make you feel happier than the one you already have. Happiness is one single thing. And you can’t acquire it, you can’t find it. It has always been. In fact, it has never left you. It always is and will always be, because happiness is like silence. Silence is one single thing. There’s no silence more silent than some other silence. It’s one. And it always is. You can’t acquire silence. Wouldn’t it be weird to acquire silence? If you want silence, just get rid of the noise and you will have it because it’s already is. It has never left you. The same thing with happiness. If you wanna be happy, just get rid of things that make you unhappy. And one of the main obstacles to happiness is thinking. Stop thinking and you will feel happiness.
Happiness is always with you. It was before you were born. It stays with you during your lifetime and it will be after your death. It always is. Like silence. Because silence IS happiness. Silence equals happiness.
You might say, “Well, silence is nice. But don’t listen to some music? Music is better than silence, isn’t it? Doesn’t music make you feel happy?” Music is not happiness, music is excitement. And excitement is not happiness. Excitement is excitement. If you listen to music you will feel excited, but not happy. And music is also a noise, but. Whatever music you listen to, however much you like it, it’s still a noise, but just the one you like. Just a positive noise or, put another way, drug. It’s still a noise which breaks the silence which is genuine happiness.
And silence always is. And if you want to hear silence, get rid of the noise.
